So I finally Finished the book and woooooo I'm glad I did because I ended up loving it.
Although it started off slow, so very slow, and all the back and forth narrative was getting a little annoying. Im glad I pressed on and finished the book ( thanks Deborah for the reco)
Weight of Silence's main character is a mute named Calli. The theory of her mutism is apparent in the story as you read along, but it takes her mom and brother the whole book to realize why she all of a sudden went mute. What also makes this story special is that Calli is friends with a little girl named Petra, who seems to understand what Calli needs, thinks, likes and beyond on a day to day basis. Petra's friends and family wonder why she is friends with Calli, but they don't understand that the two have a bond that cant be broken.
So Calli gets dragged into the woods by her father who gets belligerently drunk and frustrated with her unwillingness to talk. As he drags her into the woods she breaks free from his strong grip and runs away from him there and by getting "lost" in the woods. The same woods that years earlier there was a young girl that was abducted and killed in, but they were also the same woods that she found solace in day in and day out.
Around the time Calli gets dragged into the woods, Petra sees them from her bedroom window and thinks she shall join her friend in the woods.. Not so much. she gets lost as well.
As the day continues search crews begin to look for the 2 girls and witness are assumed, fingers are pointed, tempers flare. The day turns to night and it becomes more difficult to search for the girls.
I am not going to give away the end of the book but I will say Callies Mother realizes alot of things about herself, her husband and her daughter in the process.
Now for the questions...
1. did the book turn out how you thought it would?
2. What does the title of the book mean to you? how does the title relate to the characters in the story?
3. All the characters stories were told in first person except Callis, why do you think the Author did this?
Thank you for your patience.
Next book title and "real" meeting to come.
Have a happy holiday

I'm So Happy for You
Good Day,
This blog is is going to change the format of our monthly book club meetings. So what I'll be doing is blogging about the chosen book every other month, and then we will meet on the other months for mimosas. So feel free to chime in the the Monthly books, suggest a book.. or just come through and enjoy a mimosa with me. Enjoy!
The book for this month (September) was "I'm so happy for you" by Lucinda Rosenfeld. It is a novel about the relationship between best friends.
On one hand there is the Daphne, who is suicidal and cant find herself in her "own" relationship but leans on Wendy to be her savior in EVERY situation, which, among other things, has wedged some space between Wendy and her husband, Adam.
Wendy who is an editor, and married but is the primary breadwinner because her husband decided to take a break from life to write a book. The other thing that plagues Wendy is that she wants a baby.. Bad and her husband is happy with the life they are living, without a baby.
When Adams dad gets sick, Wendy tries hard be there for her husband but it also gives her time to reflect on her life and where things are going. Also in the blink of an eye Daphne finds herself married, in a brownstone in NY and pregnant. Although Daphne had a new love and a new life, She seemingly gets close to Adam and Wendy begins to find out information second hand from Adam about her bestie. She even thinks the baby is his and not Daphne's husbands.
1.do you think the irony of the title of the book can be applied to all friendships?
After a ruined baby shower (Daphne's)and a separation notice from her husband, Wendy finds herself in an unfamiliar position. She has now lost her husband and her bestie.. but has gained a pregnancy. thats right shes pregnant.
2. At the end of the novel everyone winds up in a far different place from which they started. Do you think Wendy and Daphne will be happy? Will they be happy for each other?
3. and lastly Which character do you relate to most? why?
So tell me what you think.
